The Barone Group’s Founder and ONE Walk Corporate Chair, Daren Barone states, “I am personally honored and thankful that my longtime friend, Mr. Paul Vaden, reach out to me to be this year’s ONE Walk Corporate Chair and to have this opportunity to participate in such an important event. Our family has been dedicated to finding a cure for this disease for nearly 20 years. The JDRF ONE Walk is one the community, along with friends, family, and associates, can come out and support the cause”

Paul Vaden, JDRF Board President and ONE Walk Celebrity Spokesperson, stated “I am elated that the Barone Group will be one of our Platinum Sponsors of the JDRF ONE Walk. I am personally so excited to have Daren back in the fold. When I first got involved with JDRF in 2004, Daren was always a staple at JDRF events. It is great to have my friend back, showing his dedication to JDRF’s Mission as a sponsor, the Corporate Walk Chair, and by forming a corporate walk team.”

The JDRF ONE Walks brings together local families, corporations and schools with the common purpose of better treating, preventing and ultimately curing Type One Diabetes (T1D), a life-threatening disease that affects over 1.5 million Americans. The expected 3,500 walkers will be raising funds to help support scientific research in the area of T1D. JDRF currently funds over $20 million of research in San Diego including research grants at The Salk Institute, Scripps Research Institute, UCSD, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, and ViaCyte. For anyone interested in joining JDRF and The Barone Group at the ONE Walk, register here.

T1D is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin — a hormone essential to turning food into energy. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.

As the largest charitable supporter of T1D research, JDRF is currently sponsoring $300 million in charitable research in 21 countries. For more information, please www.jdrf.org

About Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that impacts millions of people around the world. The disease occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin, a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Without insulin, glucose from food stays in the blood, where it can cause serious damage to all of the body’s organ systems. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
